Ally, one week after diagnosis (July 2004). There is a retrobulbar mass on her right eye and some bruising on her face. |
Here are a few email messages from Ally's parents that I saved. These serve to chronicle a part of Ally's treatment during her first year of diagnosis, mostly pre- and post-transplant. We're lucky to have two such formidable writers give such an eloquent account of Ally's and their struggles during this critical time. Although Ally lost her graft in July 2005, she continues to produce leukemia-free cells, which is nothing short of a miracle. She's slated to undergo another stem-cell transplant this coming November at National University Hospital (NUH) in Singapore.
Ally's treatment is a result of years of research, made possible by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's efforts to raise funds and find a cure. It is this research that has given Ally the promise of a new, leukemia-free life. This is what fuels my passion for this cause.
